Riverside Medical Facility to Provide High-Tech Care at Less Cost

PROVO, Utah County — A million, 42,000-square-foot medical facility is under construction at 3152 No. University Ave. that is to provide state-of-the-art care and imaging at less cost than traditional hospital emergency centers, owner and developer Dr. Wendell Gibby says.

Gibby’s Riverwoods Imaging Center in Provo will become part of the new Riverside Medical Center when the three-level building opens in September. Facilities include a vein center treatment of varicose veins and an interventional radiology center.

“This will be one of the most advanced medical facilities in the country offering a complete variety of imaging, diagnostic and interventional services,” he said.

The new Riverside Medical Center’s imaging and laboratory abilities are designed to back up an urgent care unit to give patients quick diagnosis of complex medical problems, bypassing the long wait common at hospital ERs and at less cost, he said. Emergency care wait times is a huge issue at many medical and urgent care facilities, which Gibby hopes to resolve with his new center.

Experienced physicians and nurses will staff the urgent care facility with a focus on personal care.

Other sections of the medical center include a magnetic pharmaceutical research facility to accommodate a partnership with Brigham Young University and a medical software development center in partnership with Novarad Corp. and Dell Computer.

The upper floor will be dedicated to neuroscience, including physical therapy, neuropsychology and neurology.

The facility will offer three acres of surface parking plus an underground garage where patients may drive in and hop an elevator to receive care.

Gibby describes the building as “ultra-green” with wet cellulose insulation and a multi-energy-efficient heat transfer system that instead of dispersing heat generated by the imaging equipment into the atmosphere, transfers it to other parts of the building where it may be needed.

“The advanced systems should cut in half our heating costs using energy that we are now throwing away,” he said.

The new medical center will serve the northern Utah region and is located just north of Brigham Young University between Provo and Orem. Gibby is one of the top radiologists in the country as voted by his peers.
